PowerTrack FAQs

How to correctly read rubber track measurements?

The measurements consist of three values: track width (mm), pitch (mm) and number of links (#).

The order of the "numbers" may vary (e.g. 230x96x31 or 230x31x96) depending on the manufacturer, but from a technical point of view the track remains the same, there are no differences.

The three reference measurements are printed inside the track.

If they cannot be identified, they can be measured manually on the track to be replaced.

You will find all the details on how to proceed on our Technical Support page

Once you have gathered this information, you can enter the measurement in our free text search engine or in the advanced search engine, which you will find available on the PowerTrack Tracks page

What do the letters in the measurements mean (K, W, N, B, Y, T)?

These letters refer to a specific application indicating the type of guide system:

  • N = "narrow" = RUBBER TRACKS WITH NARROW GUIDE
  • W = "wide" = RUBBER TRACKS WITH WIDE GUIDE
  • K = RUBBER TRACKS WITH EXTERNAL GUIDE REINFORCEMENT PLATES
  • Y = RUBBER TRACKS WITH ASYMMETRIC GUIDE
  • B = RUBBER TRACKS WITH EXTERNAL GUIDE (mainly intended for tracked mini loaders)
  • T = RUBBER TRACKS WITH INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL GUIDE (mainly intended for Takeuchi tracked mini loaders)

In what order are the measurements written?

The 'numbers' with which we identify rubber tracks are actually the measurements of our tracks themselves and these three measurements can be written in different order.

For example tracks 230x96x31 and 230x31x96 are absolutely identical, they are simply called differently by different manufacturers.

Technically there are no differences, PowerTrack rubber tracks are standard and fit all standard tracked construction equipment.

Can steel tracks be replaced with rubber ones?

Yes, but compatibility varies depending on the equipment. Sometimes it is also necessary to change the undercarriage.

Contact the manufacturer of your tracked construction equipment to obtain clear and reliable information regarding the switch from steel tracks to rubber tracks.

To learn more and for a complete guide, read our dedicated article.

How to replace a rubber track?

It really takes very little time!

No special equipment required, however we recommend some useful tools:
pry bar, socket wrench, grease gun, trestles/wooden blocks and PPE (safety glasses, gloves, safety footwear).

Lift the machine, loosen the track tensioning mechanism by opening the grease valve located in the frame behind the protective cover and retract the idler wheel, applying pressure on the track, using a lever to help.
The track should be completely loosened.
Remove the old track from the undercarriage.

Place the new track on the drive wheel, idler wheel and around the undercarriage rollers, using the necessary lifting tools if required.
Make sure that the drive wheel teeth are engaged with the track links and ensure that the track guide is aligned with the idler wheel.
Activate the track tensioning mechanism with the grease gun and make sure that the track reaches the correct tension.
Advance the track and make sure it rotates around the undercarriage without unexpected jerking or vibrations.

For more details or information follow our guided steps and download the guide to take with you directly from our Technical Support page.

If you have correctly followed all the steps but your new PowerTrack rubber track does not run smoothly on your construction machine, do not force it and contact us: our Technical Department will be able to provide you with immediate support.

Can only one track be replaced?

Yes, but it is not recommended. A single new track can create imbalance in the construction equipment and accelerate wear. It is always preferable to replace both.

In fact, replacing only one rubber track will not immediately cause serious damage to your construction machinery, but it is necessary to inform our customers that by replacing only one track the earthmoving machine will work and face an imbalance condition, albeit contained, and over the years the damage to your mini excavator, tracked loader or excavator could manifest itself.

How long does a rubber track last?

The lifespan of a rubber track depends on multiple factors such as: the hardness of the terrain on which the machine works, the state of wear and conditions of the machine and undercarriage and no less important is the care with which the operator handles the machinery.

How to extend the lifespan and obtain maximum performance from rubber tracks?

To extend the lifespan of the rubber track and obtain maximum performance, we recommend:

  • - Perform high-pressure washing after use to prevent debris and oils
  • - Perform periodic track tension checks after 30h of work and then every 50h
  • - Avoid high speed, impacts, sharp edges and extreme temperatures

What should be avoided to obtain greater durability of rubber tracks?

To make your rubber tracks last longer avoid high speed during transfers and use at extreme temperatures (above +55° C and below -25° C).
Furthermore, it is very important to avoid tackling steps and sharp edges at a tangent.
